How much does NMC registration cost for nurses trained abroad?

Checked against the regulator’s own pages, October 2026

The NMC’s costs page lists £1,226 in total for first sittings: a £167 evaluation fee, £83 for the CBT, £794 for the OSCE and a £182 registration fee. That excludes your visa, flights and UK travel. The NMC says its fees changed on 1 October 2026, so check the page before you pay.

Who this is for

Internationally trained nurses and midwives budgeting for UK registration.

What the official guidance says

  • Evaluation fee: £167, paid to the NMC and non-refundable.
  • CBT: £83 for the first sitting, paid to the test provider. A full resit is £83, a clinical-only resit £70 and a numeracy-only resit £50.
  • OSCE: £794 for the first sitting, paid to the test provider. A full resit (if you fail eight or more stations) is £794 and a partial resit (up to seven stations) is £397.
  • Registration fee: £182, paid to the NMC with the registration application. It is refundable in certain circumstances, for example if you withdraw or do not meet the requirements.
  • The costs page puts the total for first sittings at £1,226, excluding visa, flights and UK travel costs.
  • The NMC notes that its fees increased on 1 October 2026.

What it does not mean

  • The total is not what you pay if you resit. Each CBT or OSCE resit is charged again.
  • The NMC fees do not include the visa, the immigration application or your travel to the OSCE.
  • Fees paid to the NMC or the test provider are not paid through Migo.

What to do next

  1. 01Check the NMC costs page on the day you pay, since fees change.
  2. 02Budget for the OSCE trip to the UK as well as the fee.
  3. 03Keep money aside for a possible resit; partial OSCE resits cost less than a full one.

The visa side

Registration and the visa are separate. Migo’s visa guides cover the routes for this country, from the official government pages.

Let Migo prepare the paperwork with you

Migo AI Mobility plans your NMC route from where you are now, using the official NMC and GOV.UK guidance. It asks for your qualification, registration and identity documents, checks them and maps them to what the NMC asks for, then prepares your application for you to review. Nothing is submitted or paid without your approval. You sit the CBT and the OSCE yourself: Migo does not book or teach the Test of Competence. Creating your plan with Migo is free; paid Migo steps show their credit cost before you approve them, and regulator fees are separate and paid to them.
