How long does HCPC international registration take?

Checked against the regulator’s own pages, October 2026

The HCPC says you will hear within 10 working days of submitting, and that a first decision takes about 3 months from receipt of a complete application because of high volumes. Its verification page says outstanding checks can take a further 3 months before you are invited to pay the registration fee.

Who this is for

Internationally trained allied health professionals planning when they can start work in the UK.

What the official guidance says

  • After you submit, the HCPC says you will hear within 10 working days.
  • If documents are missing, you have six months to supply them, or the application is withdrawn and you must apply again.
  • A first decision takes about 3 months from receipt of a complete application, because the HCPC is receiving a very high number of international applications.
  • The HCPC’s verification page says it may take a further 3 months to finish outstanding checks before you are invited to pay the registration fee.
  • If your first decision is a test of competence, you need to complete it within 12 months, and the result is emailed within two weeks.
  • When you are accepted and pay the fee, the HCPC asks you to allow up to three days for the payment to reach its account.

What it does not mean

  • The clock does not start until your application is complete. Missing documents add time.
  • Three months is the HCPC’s guide for a first decision, not a guarantee. It names significant delays for some professions.
  • Registration timing is separate from the visa: you still need a job offer and certificate of sponsorship.

What to do next

  1. 01Submit only when every document, reference and the mapping are complete.
  2. 02Answer any HCPC request for missing documents well inside the six-month limit.
  3. 03Start your job search while the assessment runs, so the visa can follow soon after.
