How do I apply for HCPC registration if I trained outside the UK?

Checked against the regulator’s own pages, October 2026

You apply online through the HCPC’s international route: seven sections covering your details, qualification, experience, registration, English and a standards of proficiency mapping document, then declarations. You pay the scrutiny fee to start processing, and two assessors from your profession compare your training and experience with the HCPC’s standards.

Who this is for

Allied health professionals trained outside the UK in one of the 15 HCPC professions, such as radiographers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics and biomedical scientists.

What the official guidance says

  • The international route is for people who trained outside the UK, hold a qualification relevant to an HCPC profession, and have not been registered with the HCPC before.
  • The online application has seven sections: your details, your qualification, professional experience, professional registration and membership, English language proficiency, the standards of proficiency mapping document, and declarations.
  • The scrutiny fee is a one-off, non-refundable payment of £678.38, and it is needed for the application to begin processing.
  • The mapping document shows how your qualifications, experience and further training meet all the standards. Without a completed mapping document that can be followed, your application will be delayed.
  • Since 20 November 2025, gaps against the standards lead to a test of competence rather than a request for more information, significant gaps may lead to refusal, and you can no longer add information after you submit.
  • Two assessors from your part of the Register compare your training with the standards and work only from what you submitted.
  • Possible first decisions are acceptance onto the Register, a test of competence, or refusal. A test of competence is a structured professional discussion with two assessors, usually on Microsoft Teams, completed within 12 months.
  • The HCPC checks documents for plagiarism and AI with third-party software.

What it does not mean

  • You cannot fix a weak application after submitting it: from November 2025 the HCPC no longer accepts further information once you submit.
  • The scrutiny fee is not the registration fee. If you are accepted, you then pay a registration fee.
  • Being registered in your own country does not mean the HCPC will accept you automatically.

What to do next

  1. 01Confirm which HCPC profession and protected title match your training.
  2. 02Get your course information form completed and certified by your university, and line up referees with official email addresses.
  3. 03Write your experience account and mapping document yourself, against every standard of proficiency.
  4. 04Submit and pay the scrutiny fee only when every section is complete.

Questions

Can I use AI to write my HCPC application?

Not for your experience account. The HCPC says it must be in your own words, that you must not use AI or content from other sources, and that grammar-checking tools count as AI.

What happens if I am refused?

The HCPC says you can appeal within 28 days, or reapply at any time showing you have addressed the reasons.

Is Migo part of the HCPC?

No. Migo is an independent service. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the HCPC, and it does not give legal or immigration advice.

Official sources

The visa side

Registration and the visa are separate. Migo’s visa guides cover the routes for this country, from the official government pages.

Let Migo prepare the paperwork with you

Migo AI Mobility matches your training to the right HCPC protected title, asks for your qualification, registration and identity documents, checks them and maps them to the HCPC international application, then prepares the application details for you to review. Nothing is submitted or paid without your approval. The professional experience account stays yours to write: the HCPC says it must be in your own words.
